Workshop on System of Occupational Safety and Health Terms

The Workshop was conducted on 24th Sept. 2003, in Ha Noi, by the Department of Occupational Safety under Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs with support of Friderich Ebert Stinberg of Germany.

Occupational safety and health is an important part in the Labor Code that has been paid more and more attention, especially in the period of development and global integration. Standardizing OSH terms in order to use in compiling and implementating laws and regulations, solving labor disputes as well as in research and integration process is an urgent and meaningful requirement. However, there are only 25 sketchy OSH terms in Vietnam encyclopedia; the number of OSH terms in Vietnam standards (TCVN) is very limited and some of which are too backward.

During the workshop, there were many recommendations emphasizing the necessity to select experts experienced in OSH in order to compile OSH terms. Priority should be given to OSH terms related to the implementation of Labor Code in practice in order to meet the urgent requirements. The developing OSH terms should inherit and base on international and national OSH materials and need active cooperation and involvement from OSH agencies, experts and the related institutions.

It is meticulous and time costly to standardize OSH as well as financial resource from state budget. But it is not started, there will be nothing to be achieved. Therefore, the organizing board of compiling the OSH terms hopes to receive financial support from the State and International Organizations as well as positive co-operation from related experts and agencies.
