The performance of the National OSH Information Network with State Administration

In recent years, in the face of an increase in occupational accidents and diseases, Vietnam­ese Government has paid attention to prevent and minimize occupational accidents and diseases. Therefore, in parallel with accomplishing and issuing appropriate legal documents, information and propagation activities have been strengthened, diversified with various forms aiming to dissemination, educa­tion and training in occupational safety and health. Since its establishment on 1/12/1997, the National OSH Information Net­ work has become a bridge among State adminitrative agencies, employer's and worker's organizations, institutes, training institutions in the field of occupa­tional safety and health in Vietnam.

I- Strengthening Coop­eration, Information Exchange among Network Members to Boost State Administration over OSH

1. Collaborating to develop National Profile on Occupatio­nal Safety and Health and Natio­nal Program on Labour Protec­tion

With the support from the Government of Japan and the Int­ ernational Labour Organisation, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has collabo­ rated with ministries, industries and the network members to develop the first National Profile on Occupational Safety and Health in Vietnam, which has added to database of Occupa­tional safety and health with updates of actual situation of occupational safety and health in recent years. During the development of the National Profile, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs received positive support including information and data provision of practical situation of occupational safety and health from contact points and member agencies of the national OSH Information Network through reports, statistics on occupational accidents and diseases.

The Profile is an open source of information encouraged to be accessed by individuals, enterprises, agencies and organi­ zations. This is a database for developing the National Program on Labour Protection in 2006­ 2010 period, which is expected to bring occupational safety and health actiities in Vietnam to new height once approved by the Government. This is also a basis for im-plementing activities of OSH information and propa­gation, prevention of occup­ ational accidents and diseases harmoniously and compre­hensively nationwide.
