Signing ceremony of Project “Capacity building of OSH in Agriculture in Viet Nam”

The signing ceremony of the project “capacity building of OSH in agriculture in Vietnam” was organized in Hanoi on May 17, 2004. Leader of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs representing the implementing agency, Director of ILO Hanoi Office representing executive agency, and Mr. Shinichi Hasegawa, Assistant Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan co-signed the project document. This project is funded by the Japanese Government with the total amount of $600,000 and implemented in three years (between May 2004 and April 2007) in four target provinces of Ha Nam, Nghe An, Can Tho and Hau Giang.

The project will help the Vietnamese Government to develop policies and legal documents on OSH, firstly national OSH program, pay more attention to OSH performance in agriculture in a bid to improve working conditions for farmers towards adopting the ILO Convention No 184 on OSH in agriculture. Moreover, the project will support to develop participatory OSH training mechanism for local farmers. The project implementation will make contributions to poverty reduction in rural areas through increasing working productivity from improved OSH conditions in agriculture./.
