Activity News | Workshop on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) in Vietnam (Thai Nguyen, 12 – 13 March 2010) | |
02:25' PM - Saturday, 18/12/2010 | | Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in the economic development of the country: creating jobs for the workers, contributing significantly to the local budget. However, SMEs have been facing lots of difficulties regarding the occupational safety and health: poluted working environments and hight risks of occupational accidents and diseases. Improvement of working condition at workplace is urgent need to increase of productivity, protection of safety and health for workers in SMEs.
The Project “Effective Implementation of the National OSH Programme for Improving OSH at Work-place in Vietnam” and the project “Workers’ health protection” funded by Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfairs of Japan has been implemented in 04 provinces in Vietnam since June 2009 and has initially achieved some remarkable results in improving safety and health for workers in SMEs and enhance basic occupational medical service.
The national workshop on Improvements of Occupational Safety and Health in Small and Medium Enterprises was co-organized on 12-13 March 2010 in Thai Nguyen province by ILO/MOLISA and WHO/MOH projects with participation of ASEAN representatives and the donor during organization of the national safety week.
The workshop aiming to share information and experiences among ASEAN countries for improving occupational safety and health in SMEs and enhancing the cooperation within ASEAN community.
